Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the open-world sequel to the web-slinger’s first game by Insomniac Games, is coming to PC late in January 2025. The game, which released on PS5 in 2023, follows Peter Parker and Miles Morales as they fight classic Spider-Man rouges like Kraven the Hunter and Venom. While the game left some stories open for more down the road, Insomniac Games has addressed whether Spider-Man 2 will get any story DLC.
Miles assists Rio in protecting the culture and musical legacy of the city by investigating and preventing a museum robbery. Peter and Harry return to EMF in an attempt to learn more about Harry’s newfound powers, and let him safely practice. Peter and Miles oversee a prisoner transfer at the R.A.F.T., but are rudely interrupted by Kraven and his forces as they seek to capture the villains for unknown purposes. Take on brutal world-famous explorer, Kraven the Hunter; vicious reptilian creature, Lizard; a symbiote-infused Venom unlike anything you’ve ever seen before, and many more to be discovered. Otto Octavius later turns into Doc Ock and frees Mr. Negative, Electro, Vulture, Rhino and Scorpion to form the Sinister Six. Doc Ock takes the Devil’s breath and releases it in Times Square, also infecting Aunt May. While Mary Jane informs Peter of the location of the cure, Spider-Man is forced to build a new armored suit in order to defeat Doc Ock, who has beaten Spider-Man and taken Osborn and the cure. Marvel’s Spider-Man shows a more experienced Peter Parker than we usually see, as he’s been Spider-Man for around 8 years already at this point. Still, while he may have mastered his fighting skills, Peter still struggles to balance his personal life and his life as a crime-fighter.
Visual artifacts and a few crashes still remain even after three patches, and the game can feel less than optimized when the frame rate drops on powerful hardware. If you’re willing to wait just a little longer or are the patient and forgiving type, you’ll be rewarded with a safe sequel that can still satisfy fans of the Insomniac-developed games. This title also gets fans primed for the eventual finale what is almost certainly a trilogy. However, this release serves as a warning that Sony and its studios need to do some real work to ensure future game releases are stable from day one, or else they’ll lose the PC audience that is crucial to funding future endeavors. Movement is handled very similarly to the previous games in the series. Using their web shooters, the protagonists can swing between and above buildings while performing aerial acrobatics.

After Peter and Harry synthesize an antidote for Connors, Peter locates him with Miles’ help and eventually defeats and cures him. Upon seeing Peter wearing the exosuit, Connors reveals that it is actually an alien lifeform called a Symbiote, which Oscorp obtained years prior from a meteorite, and warns Peter to destroy it. Under the symbiote’s corrupting influence as Symbiote Spider-Man, Peter refuses and keeps it for himself despite learning that Harry’s illness has returned, straining their friendship.

Standard open-world filler activities are here aplenty, and that’s one area where Spider-Man 2 hasn’t moved with the times or shown ambition at all. Collectibles, photo opportunities, and rather basic street crimes are still here and, despite having a few slightly more interesting quirks this time around, they only very occasionally excite. You’ll regularly be stopping the same getaways with the same few button presses (the button-mashing from previous games is mercifully largely gone) or stopping a break-in by battering the same few goons. The main story took me around 18 hours to complete before I hit 100%, and the subsequent platinum trophy popped up to congratulate my efforts after 27 in total. Despite whatever loftier ambitions the story may have, this is still unapologetically an old-school approach to open-world game design, and nowhere is this displayed more clearly than in its optional quests. Spider-Man 2, and to an extent all great Spider-Man stories, tackle themes of adolescence and puberty – a time of uncertainty for even the most normal of teenagers trying to control bodily fluids.
You won’t want to jump in for the first time here since Spider-Man 2 builds on the first two games both in its mechanics and its story – but of course, there’s little reason not to, since those games are also excellent. Avoiding spoilers, the basic premise revolves around Kraven the Hunter, who is, well, craving a hunt. For those uninitiated in the character, he’s essentially The Predator, an Apex hunter blessed with super strength who has chosen New York as his next hunting ground. It’s a great starting point that sends the city’s hero and villain dynamic into flux as he sets his sights on the biggest prey possible. Furthermore, both characters have distinct abilities, so it feels fresh to switch them up.
And while we know Peter will be able to wield Symbiote powers at some stage, there’s no telling if Venom himself will eventually join forces with the spidey duo, perhaps uniting against the common threat of Kraven The Hunter. The first full-fledged sequel is just around the corner, as the first-party PlayStation studio is close to bringing the Marvel icon’s next story to life. The Spider-Man 2 minimum specs almost completely mimic those of Horizon Forbidden West, which is no surprise given that both games are PS5 ports that use expansive open worlds with a high level of graphical fidelity.
